NEI: Industry needs to continue safe operations as new regs roll out
One
of the U.S. nuclear energy industry's biggest challenges post-Fukushima
is funding plant safety enhancements while continuing to operate
without incident on a daily basis, according to Tony Pietrangelo, senior
vice president and chief nuclear officer at the Nuclear Energy
Institute. New regulations for existing nuclear plants in response to
the Fukushima Daiichi incident will roll out this spring, while the
construction of new reactors is expected to begin this year. Pietrangelo
predicts the gradual expansion of nuclear energy, which will lead to
new jobs created throughout the U.S. Omaha World-Herald (Neb.)
