Ga. county is safe from a Fukushima Daiichi-type incident
The events at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan aren't likely to occur in Burke County, Ga., where Southern Co.'s Plant Vogtle nuclear plant is located, company spokesman Steve Higginbottom said. The county recently held a nuclear-emergency drill, which was attended by federal, state and local representatives. "The plant is not in a seismic active zone, it's hundreds of feet above sea level and hundreds of miles from the coast," Higginbottom said. WJBF-TV (Augusta, Ga.)
