NRC dismisses claims against relicensing of Ohio nuclear plant
The
Nuclear Regulatory Commission threw out claims from several groups
against FirstEnergy's license-renewal bid for its Davis-Besse nuclear
plant in Ohio. The groups argued that alternative-energy sources such as
wind and solar could replace the electricity generated by the plant
when its license expires in five years. "The mere potential for, or
theoretical capacity of, wind generation facilities is insufficient to
show their commercial viability as a source of baseload power in the
[region of interest] by 2017," the NRC said. The Blade (Toledo, Ohio)
