Experts see Japan fossil fuel imports soaring without nuclear energy
Japan
will become almost completely reliant on fossil fuel imports without
nuclear energy, observers say. The country's spending for energy imports
could increase by nearly $60 billion if its reactors stay offline in
2012, according to Japan's Institute for Energy Economics.
Greenhouse-gas emissions could also increase by 5.5% this year, up from
2% last year, the institute stated. MIT Technology Review online
