- Duke Energy seeks to build new nuclear plants in the Carolinas
Duke Energy and Progress Energy, which recently overcame the final hurdle for their proposed merger, seek to construct three new nuclear plants, including two in the Carolinas. Duke officials, however, said the utility needs state approval to allow it to recoup the Carolina plants' construction costs from its customers. The projects would proceed only with "appropriate regulatory recovery mechanisms," Duke said. The Greenville News (S.C.)
