Strong quake hits northeast Japan |
A strong earthquake has shaken the northeast coast of Japan, which was devastated by a tsunami in March 2011. State broadcaster NHK said the tremor measured magnitude 7.3 and warned that a tsunami of up to 2 metres could be expected along the coast. Nearly 20,000 people were killed or left missing by the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and the resulting huge tsunami that hit the north-east coast of Japan on March 11, 2011.
