Westinghouse to develop lead-cooled fast neutron reactor
Westinghouse is working to develop a lead-cooled fast neutron nuclear reactor in which lead would absorb the radiation produced. "Everyone is talking about [how] we need to have some change," said Westinghouse Chief Technology Officer Cindy Pezze of the firm's efforts. Recently, the company submitted a proposal to the Energy Department, which will award $80 million to two research teams during the next five years for advanced nuclear reactor development.
