We are delighted to inform you that WINS is organising in cooperation with the
International Source Suppliers and Producers Association (ISSPA) an International Best Practice Workshop on Liability Risk Management in the Event of a Malacious Incident Involving Radioactive Sources, which will take place in Washington DC, United
States, on March 1-2, 2016 and that registration is now open for this event.
The Workshop will be designed around a set of key
questions including:
·
What liabilities arise where security is breached and damage is incurred by individuals, property and/or the environment?
· How will the responsibility for compensation claims for damages or cost recovery efforts be addressed?
· How would persons or organisations be held accountable when it has been determined that their failure to meet their assigned duties or responsibilities resulted in, or contributed to, significant damage?
· Would meeting basic assigned duties (i.e. license requirements) be sufficient to prevent being pursued for third party damages?
The workshop will be held in
English and will draw only on unclassified information. In line with
WINS’ innovative approach to Best Practice Workshops, this event will be
interactive and professionally facilitated. More
details can be found in the workshop page here as well as in
the announcement attached. Please note that
participation will be limited, so please let us know as soon as possible
if you wish to attend this event.
Should you have any questions about this workshop, please do not hesitate to contact my colleague, Bettina Lock:
bettina.lock@wins.org.
In addition to this event, I would like to bring your attention to two additional events
also organised by WINS early 2016:

A Workshop on Nuclear Security Summit: Enhancing Radiological Security (Gift Basket Meeting), which will be held in
Oslo, Norway, on January 18 to 19, 2016 (click here for more information)
-
A Workshop on Assessing Vulnerabilities - An Integrated and Comprehensive Approach, which will be held in
Paris, France, on April 12 to 14, 2016 (click here for more information)
