Liquid Metal Batteries
May Revolutionize
Energy Storage
Aging
energy grids need more and more help to maintain reliable flows, and a
Massachusetts startup believes it may have an answer in the form of a
battery system that uses molten metal. Ambri's system consists of
durable liquid magnesium and antimony electrodes separated by a molten
salt electrolyte and operates at a high temperature provided by
self-heating during charging and discharging, keeping costs low.
