After a month-long recess, the House of Representatives is back in town. Government funding runs out September 30, and we're watching the upcoming conference negotiations on
H.R. 5895, the "minibus" appropriations package that includes funding for the Department of Energy.
The
bill has been passed by both the House and the Senate, and the
conference will give a chance to hammer out the differences between the
two bills. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Chairman of the Senate Energy
& Water Appropriations subcommittee, has indicated that negotiations will begin immediately.
Though the minibus has moved quickly this year, Congress may enact a
short–term Continuing Resolution, and punt final consideration until
after the election.
