Generation Atomic

Last time I emailed you we had just started scaling up our team for a 3 month push for 100% clean power in Illinois.  Now I can report that we have fourteen staff members distributed across four campuses, working to build a community of support for a nuclear inclusive clean energy transition. The team we've assembled has a range of experience in media, nonprofits, and technical fields, but the one thing that unites them is a deep love for the planet. Let's do this! ⚛✊

The urgency of the situation comes from a recent Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ruling that limits the amount of state government subsidies that clean energy sources like renewables and nuclear can use to be compete in the energy market. This puts existing reactors at risk of closure, and there are 11 in IL! How important is it that nuclear is a big part of this transition? Take a look for yourself.
Illinois Electricity Mix
Though our attentions will be almost entirely focused on Illinois over the next few months, good work continues by our volunteers and allies.  In Gen A Mag this month, Grant Chalmers presents some incredible visualizations of the carbon intensity of different countries' electricity portfolios, and Daniel Chen digs into the intersection of the pro-democracy and anti-nuclear movement in Taiwan, and how they need to be separated for the good of the planet.

AND FINALLY....Here's where you fit in:
1.) Ask your legislator to support
more research into low dose radiation. We expect the science to show what history has demonstrated so far-- low doses of radiation aren't dangerous, and regulating nuclear and medical isotopes to death over it has had a much greater deleterious effect than the radiation might have. Let's get some proof!
2.) It's the LAST 3 weeks to enter the social media contest and it's still anyone's game.  There are multiple prizes so submit a meme, video, or infographic (three different categories) before February 15th.. Click here for more info and to submit an entry.

Thanks for your support and remember, whether through nuclear medicine or by displacing fossil pollution-- half lives save lives.
