N.M. uranium mine to permanently shut down | SmartBrief: Texas-based Rio Grande Resource Corp. gave formal notice that it does not intend to re-open its Mount Taylor uranium mine near Grants, N.M., and plans to begin closure and reclamation activities at the site over a 16-month period. The 286-acre mine has been inactive since 1999.
