FEATURED ENERGY COMMUNITIES ALLIANCE   A Look at Communities Affected by Federal Nuclear Waste ECA staff | 11/13/2020   Solving how to safely dispose of spent nuclear fuel and defense waste will take leadership to move forward.  Kara Colton, Director of Nuclear Policy at the Energy Communities Alliance, joined Sam Brinton of Deep Isolation to discuss the challenges facing communities where defense waste is currently stored and prospects to address nuclear waste disposal.  Kara outlines the importance of engaging the communities who have long supported the country’s national security mission that are directly impacted by Department of Energy activities and policies.  ECA supports the local government officials in these communities that work to ensure the health, safety, and the environment of their communities.  One of Kara’s key messages is that trust is paramount and fundamental to finding a solution to best manage and dispose of the nation’s spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive nuclear waste.    You can listen to Kara’s conversation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.   Link to podcast >> Follow the latest DOE budget updates with ECA's budget tracker Monitor DOE spending bills, detailed site budgets, and more.
