ОВОС
The Russian State Nuclear Corporation Rosatom is eyeing the city of Dimitrovgrad, on the river Volga, for its plans to build a new experimental small-capacity nuclear power plant (NPP) – a liquid-metal-cooled modular fast reactor based on a converted naval design. This is alarming news to Russia’s environmentalists, who point to the less than perfect record this type of reactors had when operated on board of Soviet nuclear submarines. On the eve of the public hearing in Dimitrovgrad, where the project is to be presented on July 29, Russian NGOs prepared a critical statement on the official environmental impact assessment of the future plant.
