NRC releases post-crisis safety recommendations
Nuclear
Regulatory Commission staff have recommended initial safety rules for
nuclear plant operators that would address concerns related to the
Fukushima Daiichi incident in Japan. One rule would require operators to
come up with strategies for extreme scenarios, while another would task
nuclear plants with enhancing instrumentation in used nuclear fuel
pools. "Each of the orders is focused on enhancing defense in depth at
nuclear power plants through increased capabilities to minimize the
potential for core damage following a beyond design basis external
event," the agency said in a memo. Reuters
