Spain’s Ensa wins steam generator contracts at US and French nuclear plantsby I-Nuclear |
Spain’s
Equipos Nucleares S.A., or Ensa, has secured contracts worth €120
million with Westinghouse and Areva for the construction of 11 steam
generators and a reactor vessel head replacement, according to a
February 8 statement from Ensa’s parent company, SEPI.
SEPI,
or La Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales, said the
contracts signed in “recent days” include three steam generators and a
replacement vessel head under contract with Westinghouse for the Beaver
Valley plant in Pennsylvania. The delivery of this equipment is
scheduled for the summer of 2016.
In
addition, another contract with Areva is for two sets of four steam
generators for two unnamed EDF nuclear power plants, SEPI said. These
are set for delivery in the spring of 2016, SEPI said.
The
new contracts secure work at Ensa’s factory in Maliaño, in Cantabria
Province in the north of Spain. With the signing of these contracts,
Ensa’s order book exceeds 1 million direct man-hours, which represents a
historic record and guarantees work for Ensa’s approximately 500
employees during the next few years, SEPI said.
The contracts will have also a very positive indirect economic effect in the region, it said.
Ensa
has a world leading position as a manufacturer, successfully competing
in the technologically-demanding nuclear power market, SEPI said.
Ensa exports 85% of its production to countries including the US, France, China, Sweden, Finland, and South Korea.
Ensa is wholly owned by SEPI. SEPI is a state-owned holding company, which reports to the Ministry of Economics and Treasury.--David Stellfox
