Southern remains hopeful about loan guarantee for Ga. project
The
Department of Energy's new financial conditions have made Southern
Co.'s efforts to secure a loan guarantee for its Plant Vogtle expansion
project in Georgia harder, said Thomas Fanning, the company's chairman,
president and CEO. "We're very hopeful we'll be able to reach a
successful conclusion, but rest assured ... if they ask us to do
something that's not in our customers' interest, we won't go forward,"
Fanning said. "We'll be successful whether we have them or not." Fox Business/Dow Jones Newswires
