U.S. nuclear plant operators met a March 31 deadline to procure new
emergency equipment, which is part of the industry's efforts to bolster
safety in aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi incident in Japan,
according to the Nuclear Energy Institute. The equipment includes pumps,
generators, battery charges, satellite communications and hoses. "The
nuclear industry is responding to the lessons learned from Fukushima
with actions that provide the greatest safety benefit in the quickest
amount of time," said Tony Pietrangelo, NEI's senior vice president and
chief nuclear officer. NuclearStreet.com
