China won't be frozen out of the Arctic
Members
of the Arctic Council are undecided on China's ambitions towards
permanent observer status, though Beijing will likely be the largest
customer for natural resources and new shipping lines that will emerge
as the region warms. Should the council deny entry, China will simply
circumvent the ruling to safeguard its economic interests in the North
Pole. - Jian Junbo (May 2, '12)
