NRC to hold discussions about proposed N.C. enrichment plant
The
Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a May 10 meeting to tackle GE
Hitachi Nuclear Energy's proposed laser-based uranium-enrichment plant
in North Carolina. Discussions will focus on the project's safety
evaluation and environmental-impact report. "The [safety evaluation
report] contains the staff's conclusion that [GE Hitachi's]
descriptions, specifications and analyses provide an adequate basis for
safety and safeguards of facility operations and that operation of the
facility would not pose an undue risk to workers or public health and
safety," the agency said in a statement. Star-News (Wilmington, N.C.)
