Japan villagers give mixed responses to shutdown of reactor
The
shutdown of the Unit 3 reactor at Hokkaido Electric Power's Tomari
nuclear plant in Japan drew mixed reactions from Tomari village
residents. "If the reactor remains suspended for many years, it will
lead to staff cuts," said Hideyoshi Miyatani, the operator of a
machinery and equipment company. "Hopefully this will mark the first
step toward Japan's breakaway from nuclear power generation," one
resident said. The Mainichi (Japan)/Kyodo News
