WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman will hold an Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing to examine legislation he introduced to establish a new organization to manage nuclear waste, provide a consensual process for sitting nuclear waste facilities, ensure adequate funding for managing nuclear waste, and for other purposes. Testifying before the committee include: Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft, co-chairman of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future, Washington, DC; Dr. Richard Meserve, president, Carnegie Institution for Science, Washington, DC; Dr. Peter Lyons, assistant secretary for nuclear energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Henry Barron, president and chief executive officer, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, LLC, Baltimore, MD; Geoffrey Fettus, senior attorney of the nuclear program, Natural Resources Defense Council, Washington, DC. On Thursday, Bingaman will take part in a Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing to examine collage affordability.
