Nevadans question report on Yucca health risks

Nevadans question report on Yucca health risks

Former Nevada Test Site medical director says Yucca Mountain is safe
Former Nevada Test Site Medical Director Dr. Leonard Kreisler said the Yucca Mountain used nuclear fuel repository would not pose a public health risk. "There is no danger with the Yucca Mountain project," Kreisler said at a meeting on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff's recent draft report on the Yucca Mountain project. The study found that the maximum contamination dose from the site in the Amargosa Valley would be 1.3 millirems, which is far less than the 300 millirems per year of normal background radiation that residents experience.
