This
month, making what is sure to be a well-read return to the magazine's
pages after a one-year hiatus is our U.S. nuclear capacity factors
feature! According to our intrepid numbers cruncher, the median DER net
capacity factor of the 98 reactors included in this latest survey
(covering the three-year period of 2016–2018) is the highest ever
reported by
Nuclear News.
Major takeaways include:
- Fleet-wide 2016–2018 capacity factor: 91.01%
- Highest performer: Exelon's Calvert Cliffs-2, at 101.46%
- Most improved: Xcel's Monticello, at 94.86%—a 24.09% improvement
- Highest ranking owner/operator: Southern, at 94.49%
