OPEN100: Update #1

In February, we launched OPEN100 - the world's first open-source platform for the design, construction, and financing of nuclear power plants.

Today, we are excited to announce our selection of partners to continue development of this platform:

  • Idaho National Laboratory
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • JoΕΎef Stefan Institute
  • National Nuclear Laboratory, UK
  • Studsvik Scandpower

You can read more about the project in:
Power Magazine, Yahoo Finance, Singularity Hub and of course, our original blog post.

A big thank you to utilities, vendors, academics, and startups who helped us formulate our thesis, to the NRC for providing the baseline FSAR documents, and the NNSA for their swift export review.

We'll be publishing new releases of OPEN100 quarterly, so anticipate updates to the website and reports like the following...

Last Version:
  • Project visualization: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VWTSDdYFFw
  • Design basis, conceptual plant layout, & FEL-2 engineering
  • 18 CAD files (equipment, site, building, etc)
  • Economic comparison to GEN-II PWR
  • Level 2, sub 24-month construction sequence

Next Version:
  • Define initial core configuration
  • Establish PRA driven safety basis
  • Update plant layout to accommodate larger/missing equipment, re-route piping
  • Add more detail to CAD models and alternate equipment versions
  • Level 3 construction sequence
