Southern Co.'s license to build and operate two new reactors at its Plant Vogtle in Georgia is the first new license approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said Tony Pietrangelo, the Nuclear Energy Institute's senior vice president and chief nuclear officer. New licensees will be compelled to apply any post-Fukushima Daiichi safety standards, he said.
