Tepco Releases English Version Of Fukushima-Daiichi Report

Tepco Releases English Version Of Fukushima-Daiichi Report

6 Feb (NucNet): Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) has released an English version of an interim report on the March 2011 accident at the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant.

The report says critical units of the plant withstood shaking from the initial earthquake before being flooded by the tsunami that followed.  The tsunami knocked out cooling systems that led to the melting of fuel rods in three reactors at the plant and the worst radiation release since the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

Tepco set up an internal committee headed by vice-president Masao Yamazaki in June 2011 to investigate the accident.

The 130-page interim report was initially released on Friday 2 December 2011 in Tokyo, but in Japanese only.  The English version is online
