Industry generally supports new safety rules for nuclear plants
The
U.S. nuclear industry generally supports new safety rules backed by the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission in response to the Fukushima Daiichi
incident in Japan, said Tony Pietrangelo, senior vice president and
chief nuclear officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute. Under the rules,
operators would be required to craft new accident-prevention strategies
and improve monitoring of used nuclear fuel. "We learned a lesson right
away that we have to be prepared to deal with a multiunit event,"
Pietrangelo said. The Wall Street Journal
