Companies with major operations in Charlotte, N.C., including Westinghouse Electric and The Shaw Group, are benefiting from the development of new reactors in Georgia and South Carolina. The AP1000 reactor, which is designed by Westinghouse and built by Shaw, will be used at both sites. "Those were extraordinary milestones not only for the nuclear industry, but [for] Charlotte, for Shaw and for Westinghouse," said Jeff Merrifield, senior vice president of Shaw's Power Group.
