- India mulls construction of small nuclear plant in Jharkhand
India's Department of Atomic Energy is studying the construction of a small nuclear plant in Jharkhand, since the uranium used in the country's nuclear plants comes from mines in that state. "Nuclear power plants require huge [a] quantity of water. This is precisely why all major nuclear power plants have been set up in coastal areas and we can't think of setting large nuclear power plants in Jharkhand," said Srikumar Banerjee, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and secretary of the department.
