Industry is working to curb effects of climate change
The
U.S. nuclear industry is well aware of the potential effects of climate
change on the operations of nuclear plants and is already working on
solutions to mitigate those effects, experts say. Earlier in the week,
Nature Climate Change magazine released a report predicting that higher
temperatures and lower river levels could prompt such facilities to
reduce generation capacity in the long term. "The Nature study's time
parameters remind us that gradual change allows time for adaptation,"
said Bill Skaff, director of policy development at the Nuclear Energy
Institute. NEI Nuclear Notes blog
