10 years and 9.5M tons later, radioactive Moab tailings pile shrinking | Deseret News: The 10 year anniversary of removing radioactive tailings near the Colorado River happened earlier this month, with 9.5 million tons shipped out so far. The tailings are being buried at a disposal site 30 miles away. About 6.5 million tons remain.
