Oconee Nuclear Station part of study assessing cancer risk By Anna Simon

NEI: Cancer-risk study will show safety of nuclear plantshttp://www.heraldonline.com/2010/09/12/2444651/oconee-nuclear-station-part-of.html
The federal government will study the surroundings of Duke Energy's Oconee nuclear plant in Greenville, S.C., for radiation and cancer risks. The nuclear industry backs the study and is confident that public health is protected. Radiation exposure "is strictly regulated and is controlled at levels that are just a fraction of federal radiation-safety standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the NRC," said Steve Kerekes, a spokesman for the Nuclear Energy Institute.
