Audit: South Carolina radioactive waste cleanup will cost $1.5 billion more than expected
The Department of Energy will have to spend nearly $1.5 billion more than planned to decommission the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, according to an audit by the Government Accountability Office. The department, which bid $3.2 billion for the project, miscalculated by about 70% on labor expenses and did not compute other costs, the report added.
