Senator urges inclusion of nuclear into Hawaii's energy mix
Hawaii's energy portfolio should include small nuclear reactors so that the state can wean itself from oil and coal within two decades, said state Sen. Fred Hemmings. Speaking at an energy summit in Honolulu, Hemmings said he predicts small modular reactors can produce electricity together with solar and wind facilities. This new technology has also helped resolved the safety concerns with bigger reactors, he added. American City Business Journals/Honululu
