Group proposes development of thorium-fueled reactor

group of nuclear advocates, entrepreneurs and researchers are proposing
the development of a thorium-fueled reactor, which would use a
combination of molten chemical salts to cool the unit. Such a reactor
would be safer and more efficient compared with existing facilities and
would generate less radioactive waste, advocates say. "Ninety-nine
percent of the thorium is burned up. Instead of 10,000 pounds of waste,
you would have 300 pounds of waste," said John Kutsch, director of the
Thorium Energy Alliance. The Washington Post
