Report finds Fukushima incident a "profoundly man-made disaster"
The
official government report from the Fukushima Nuclear Accident
Independent Investigation Commission found that the Fukushima Daiichi
incident was "profoundly man-made" and preventable. The commission
criticized Tokyo Electric Power, the plant's operator, for trying "to
avoid responsibility by putting all the blame" on the tsunami, adding
that the "enormous" amount of radioactive emissions from the plant was
due to human negligence. The report also laid blame on Japan's culture
of "reflexive obedience" to authority and "devotion to 'sticking with
the program.' " TheAtlantic.com
