- Warhead-recycling program is 90% complete
USEC announced that Megatons to Megawatts, a 20-year U.S.-Russia warhead-recycling program, is 90% finished in transforming Russian nuclear warhead uranium into low enriched reactor fuel. "For nearly two decades, the Megatons to Megawatts program has provided a reliable source of fuel for commercial nuclear power plants while reducing the quantities of weapons-grade uranium remaining in the world," said USEC President and CEO John Welch. The program is scheduled to end in 2013. International Business Times
