Nuclear fuel pools are as safe as dry casks
Despite
misinformation during the Fukushima Daiichi incident, used nuclear fuel
pools are as safe as dry casks, as stated by former Nuclear Regulatory
Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko, writes Tom Kauffman, senior media
relations manager at the Nuclear Energy Institute. None of the used fuel
in storage pools at the Fukushima Daiichi plant was found to have
incurred major damage. "There were no fires, no fuel rod incineration
and no explosions in any of the fuel pools. The NRC and Chairman Jaczko
confirmed this last year," Kauffman writes. The Day (New London, Conn.)
