World’s First Nuclear Powered Carrier Makes Final Deployment
On Sunday, the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier left its home port for the last time.The Navy has relied on the USS Enterprise for 51 years, with missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan highlighting its service. The 1,123-foot-long carrier based in Norfolk, Va., also served as the backdrop for the movie “Top Gun.”
