Report: Closing Vt. nuclear plant would cost more than 1,000 jobs
More
than 1,000 jobs and millions in tax revenue would be lost if Entergy
shuts down its Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, according to a report from a
local economic-development group. Entergy and Vermont are locked in a
legal battle over the plant's future, but the company is capable of
shutting down the facility any time it wants, task force members said.
"We need to realize, it could be something as simple as an expensive
part breaking, and [Entergy] deciding it's no longer feasible for the
plant to remain in operation," said Chris Campany, a member of the task
force. The Keene Sentinel (N.H.)
